Sherrill House Raises $145,000 at Inaugural Gala

Funds Will Support Improved Facilities for Residents and Staff

BOSTON (Dec. 16, 2024) – Sherrill House, a not-for-profit skilled nursing and rehabilitation center in Jamaica Plain, raised $145,000 in net proceeds at its first-ever Grand Slam Gala at the Aura Pavilion at historic Fenway Park on Nov. 13. It also achieved the goal of bringing in new friends to the organization,

The funds raised will directly support the creation of a new rehabilitation gym and staff café and are part of a larger $1 million fundraising effort to enhance care and services for Sherrill House residents, patients, and staff. The Red Sox Foundation served as the event’s Grand Slam Sponsor, with Red Sox President and CEO Sam Kennedy and his wife Amanda serving as event co-chairs.

“The gala was truly a special night that highlighted the incredible generosity of our supporters, and the important role that Sherrill House plays in the community,” said Sherrill House President and CEO Patrick J. Stapleton. “These funds will help us build spaces that empower our staff and enable them to provide the highest quality care to our residents.”

During the program, current Sherrill House Board of Trustees Chair Rev. Thomas B. Kennedy and former Board of Trustees President Richard W. Benka presented Stapleton with a resolution for his two decades of leadership.

“This event was such a fitting way to celebrate our 125-year history of helping older adults across the region through skilled nursing and rehabilitation,” said Rev. Kennedy. “The generosity from the community surpassed all expectations and it was inspiring to see how the passion in the room translated into meaningful support that will directly benefit the services Sherrill House provides.”

Jerry Rodgers, owner and director of Mann and Rodgers Funeral Home and a past Sherrill House rehabilitation patient, spoke about his experience as a patient and how it served as a bridge in his return home. Former WCVB news Anchor Susan Wornick emceed the event.
