Patients needing rehabilitation following surgery or other illness will be admitted to our Return to Home™ program. This comprehensive rehabilitation program is tailored to the needs and capabilities of each patient. Rehabilitation services are provided in our fully-equipped sunlit gym overlooking the Jamaicaway, by an in-house, multidisciplinary, professional staff of physical, occupational and speech therapists. Treatment is designed to facilitate our residents' and patients' independence, and promote healing and the highest level of functioning, as quickly as possible. We offer rehabilitation services on an inpatient basis, up to 7 days / week. Rehabilitation therapy at Sherrill House can address:
Orthopedic
- Hip replacement
- Knee replacement
- Multiple fractures or trauma
- Arthritis
- Amputations, including prosthetics
Neurological
- Stroke (transient ischemic attack – TIA or cerebral vascular accident – CVA)
- Peripheral nerve damage (neuropathy)
- Communication disorders
Cardiac
- Coronary Artery Bypass Grafts

- AAA Repair
- Valve Repair/Replacement
- CHF (congestive heart failure)
Respiratory

Pneumonia

COPD (chronic obstructive pulmonary disease)

Asthma
Some common goals in rehab treatment include:
- Learning positioning and walking skills (gait training)
- Home exercise programs
- Learning techniques to make the home safer
- Using adaptive equipment for Activities of Daily Living (ADLs)
- Relearning techniques for personal care, such as dressing, grooming, eating, etc. (ADLs)
- Training family members and caregivers to be helpful, effective, and safe
- Regaining speech, swallowing, and cognitive abilities
