Our History

In 1907, concerned parishioners of Trinity Church in the City of Boston built Trinity Church Home for the Aged (Rachel Allen Memorial) in Jamaica Plain. In 1966, Trinity Church Home and St. Luke's Home, a facility in Roxbury operating since 1870, were deemed obsolete. The Trustees of both joined with the Episcopal Diocese of Massachusetts to build Sherrill House in 1970. In 1995, The Frank Wood Home for Convalescents, a facility formerly in Mattapan, joined forces with Sherrill House. The Frank Wood Home's resources added significantly to the financial strength of Sherrill House. In 2007, Sherrill House completed the largest renovation and expansion project in our organization's history.

Today’s Sherrill House is the culmination of more than one hundred years of history. We are proud of our tradition of caring and excellence, and we remain committed to continuously improving our services and programs to best meet the needs of those we serve.
